The 30-second test will be executed by the FCC, in conjunction with FEMA and the NWS.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a public alert mechanism,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the FCC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/encyclopedia\/emergency-alert-system-nationwide-test\" target=\"_blank\">stated<\/a>, saying that they will use \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the results of this nationwide test to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153make improvements to the system as appropriate.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>According to the FCC, the President has sole responsibility for determining when the EAS will be activated at the national level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediabistro.com\/tvspy\/first-nationwide-eas-test-scheduled-for-2-p-m-today_b28525\">From Mediabistro.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At 2 p.m. EST today, a familiar sound will ring out from TVs across the country.
