{"id":1818,"date":"2011-12-02T11:54:40","date_gmt":"2011-12-02T19:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/savingtherepublic.com\/blog\/?p=1818"},"modified":"2011-12-02T11:54:40","modified_gmt":"2011-12-02T19:54:40","slug":"george-soros-world-financial-system-on-brink-of-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/savingtherepublic.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/george-soros-world-financial-system-on-brink-of-collapse\/","title":{"rendered":"George Soros: World Financial System on Brink of Collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/economics\/2011\/12\/01\/soros-world-financial-system-on-brink-of-collapse\/\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> By Brenda Cronin<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/s.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/images\/OB-QV019_soros_D_20111201050606.jpg?resize=262%2C174\" title=\"soros\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"262\" height=\"174\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>The world financial system not only isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t functioning, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s on the brink of collapse, according to investor <strong>George Soros<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Hungarian-born philanthropist, who recently spent time in areas where his charities are active, such as Africa, said he sees a growing bifurcation between emerging and developed countries \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s more confident about prospects for the emerging ones.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their assorted problems, including corruption, weak infrastructure and shaky government, developing countries are relatively unscathed by the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153deflationary debt trap that the developed world is falling into,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mr. Soros said at a New York gathering to mark the 10th anniversary of the <strong>International Senior Lawyers Project<\/strong>, a group that provides pro bono legal services around the world. Mr. Soros was among those honored by ISLP, for his work as founder and chairman of the Open Society Foundations, which supports democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n<p>The current global financial system is in a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153self-reinforcing process of disintegration,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mr. Soros warned, and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the consequences could be quite disastrous. You have to do what you can to stop it developing in that direction.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>While the economic and fiscal woes of the developed world remain critical, Mr. Soros said his recent travels gave him a sense of optimism about Africa and the Arab world.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153A lot of positive things are happening,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I see Africa together with the Arab Spring as areas of progress.
