Accusations of Dirty Tricks Fly in New York Special Election<\/p>\n

With less than seven hours to go until the polls close in the contentious NY-09 special election, allegations of dirty tricks between Democrat David Weprin and Republican Bob Turner are flying.<\/p>\n

Weprin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s campaign claimed Tuesday afternoon that Turner and his GOP allies sent a 3 a.m. text message asking voters to call Weprin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s campaign headquarters to jam up his phone lines.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It is outrageous that Bob Turner\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s allies would resort to jamming our phones in an effort to prevent our campaign from contacting voters and getting out the message about how radical Bob Turner really is,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Weprin spokeswoman Elizabeth Kerr. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Republicans participating in phone jamming in the past have landed in jail, and there must be a full investigation into the Republican phone jamming campaign.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

Kerr is referencing a 2002 New Hampshire phone-jamming scheme<\/a> which eventually resulted in the jailing of the then-executive director of the state GOP.<\/p>\n

Turner\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s campaign immediately pushed back against the claims, saying the charges were a distraction from Weprin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s missteps.<\/p>\n
