Fact they are looking for this application to begin with or fact that they want to outsource it vs developing it themselves!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2012\/01\/26\/fbi-seeking-social-media-monitoring-tool\/\">Raw Story<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"fbi\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/fbilogo-afp.jpg?resize=369%2C207\" alt=\"\" width=\"369\" height=\"207\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">WASHINGTON \u00e2\u20ac\u201d The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking for a tool to mine social media for intelligence tips.<\/p>\n<p>The US domestic law enforcement agency is asking information technology contractors about the feasibility of building a tool that would \u00e2\u20ac\u0153enhance its techniques for collecting and sharing \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcopen source\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 actionable intelligence.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The January 19 open request was published on a website offering federal business opportunities and was first reported by New Scientist magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI said it is seeking an \u00e2\u20ac\u0153open source and social media alert, mapping and analysis application solution\u00e2\u20ac\u009d for its Strategic Information and Operations Center (SIOC).<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Social media has become a primary source of intelligence because it has become the premier first response to key events and the primal alert to possible developing situations,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the FBI request said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Intelligence analysts will often use social media to receive the first tip-off that a crisis has occurred,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI said the tool \u00e2\u20ac\u0153must have the ability to rapidly assemble critical open source information and intelligence that will allow SIOC to quickly vet, identity, and geo-locate breaking events, incidents and emerging threats.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>It would need to be able to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153instantly search and monitor key words and strings in all \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcpublicly available\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 tweets across the Twitter site and any other \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcpublicly available\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 social networking sites\/forums.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>It would also need the ability to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153search the data across a myriad of parameters and view terrorist activities by location, terrorist group, and type of attack and see trends and analytics.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, it would have to be able \u00e2\u20ac\u0153to immediately translate into English, tweets and any other open forum publicly available social media captured in a foreign language.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Interested parties have until February 10 to respond to the FBI request.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s worse about this story.
