{"id":873,"date":"2011-10-19T20:30:42","date_gmt":"2011-10-20T03:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/savingtherepublic.com\/blog\/?p=873"},"modified":"2011-10-19T20:30:42","modified_gmt":"2011-10-20T03:30:42","slug":"%e2%80%98occupy%e2%80%99-may-hold-national-assembly-in-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/savingtherepublic.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/%e2%80%98occupy%e2%80%99-may-hold-national-assembly-in-philadelphia\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcOccupy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 May Hold National Assembly In Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/philadelphia.cbslocal.com\/2011\/10\/19\/\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcoccupy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122-to-hold-national-assembly-in-philadelphia\/\">From CBS Philly<\/a><br \/>\n<em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"opa\" src=\"http:\/\/cbsphilly.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/2011-10-06-11-14-31.jpg?w=300&#038;resize=300%2C225\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>PHILADELPHIA (CBS)<\/em> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Mayor Michael Nutter was reacting cautiously on Wednesday to word that national organizers of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Occupy Wall Street\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and similar protests across the country plan to gather here in Philadelphia next summer.<\/p>\n<p>The plans are found in a document posted online by an \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Occupy Wall Street\u00e2\u20ac\u009d working group, titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The 99 Percent Declaration.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The document proposes a National General Assembly to be held in Philadelphia starting on July 4th, 2012 and running through next October.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal says the Assembly would operate similarly to the original \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Committees of Correspondence\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the Founding Fathers who met in Philadelphia prior to what the group refers to as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the first American Revolution.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/the99percentdeclaration\/home\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to view the document<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>It was not immediately clear if such a gathering will actually take place, but city officials are aware of the proposal and <em><strong><\/strong><\/em>Mayor Nutter says he wants to talk about it with the organizers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I understand national Occupy would want to be in Philadelphia \u00e2\u20ac\u201d this is birthplace of freedom, liberty, and democracy for the United States of America \u00e2\u20ac\u201d so I look forward to a conversation,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Nutter tells <em>KYW Newsradio.<\/em>  \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We need to better understand what it is they want to do, where and what it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all about. Credit: Mike Dunn)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u201d\u00e2\u20ac\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Negrin says they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re working with the protestors to agree on an alternate site, perhaps Thomas Paine Plaza outside the neighboring Municipal Services Building.<\/p>\n<p>And what if they refuse to leave?<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We hope it doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get there,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Negrin. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the kind of showdown that some folks would like. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a minority of the folks. In large part, they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been incredibly cooperative. (But) there are small groups who infiltrate the ranks, like the anarchists and others, who don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t care about the government, just care about chaos. Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hope those folks are not in the majority.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Meantime, Negrin says the city is trying to resolve concerns about fire access and public hygiene at the current encampment. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re worried about cleanliness; we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re worried about public urination. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had conversations with them.
