Sen Cruz spoke July 15th at the DC March for Jobs rally stating the immigration reform bill was designed to fail and will make the immigration problem worse. He said we are hearing the same story that was told in 1986, where Congress is offering same deal to grant amnesty to 11mil as they did to 3mil people then by legalizing first and talking about securing the border later.
Cruz then talked about how Chuck Schumer said if we pass the Gang of Eights bill illegal immigration will be a thing of past but questioned if Schumer is right then why not secure borders first?! He went on to say the MSM fails to report how the Gang of Eights bill intersects with Obamacare. The Senator talked about a $5000 penalty a business will have to pay if they hire a US citizen or legal immigrant but not offer them healthcare under Obamacare. But if that same business hires illegals granted amnesty they are exempted from Obamacare “there is a $5000 thousand dollar penalty for hiring US citizens and legal immigrants and 0 penalty for hiring those who are here illegally”. He then goes on to give an example of what will happen to the avg business owner doing good or bad under the Gang of Eights plan. Cruz warned the immigration bill will increase unemployment for everyone across the board whether they are black, white, hispanic and the youth.
The Senator closed out his speech giving one last example using his father, Rafael Cruz who fled Cuba, as the model example of how legal immigration is supposed to work but also showing what would happen had the Gang of Eights bill been in place.
