I have mixed feelings about the overpasses protest but that is for another day. I have watched this and am still puzzled as to what law was broken? “Public safety” is the reason to violate these protestors First Amendment rights according to the officers. Question: isn’t the very presence of a police vehicle parked on the side of a busy road/ highway with lights on causing traffic jams creating “public safety” risk?! I have lost count at the number of times I’ve been on a road that is brought to a stand still just because there is a cop sitting on the side. As a matter of fact I once sat in a 30 minute jam up because one was parked in a median, lights off, facing the same direction of traffic (not angled for speed traps) while the officer was doing paperwork!
I’ve seen an alarming number of videos where police will invoke “public safety”, “interfering with an investigation” or in this case “failure to comply” etc to justify arresting people within their right to film and protest. What we have here is an example of a First Amendment civil rights violation by those who swore to protect and defend those very civil rights. It’s become abundantly clear to me that there are many within law enforcement who will be automatons following orders violating their oath of service.
