Judge Pirro seems to be the only one right now putting light on a major threat to the US power grid. Our electrical power grid requires a $500 million upgrade Congress refuses to get moving on. Russia, China already have their grids upgraded and protected while the US has an outdated system vulnerable from a natural disaster like a solar flare/EMP or a man-made attack.
Of all the segments from her show Amb James Woolsey’s comments should scare the hell out of people. The N Koreans and Iranians have been messing with long-range missile technology while pursuing satellite programs which we know are test runs for their nuclear weapons programs and most likely an EMP attack on the US. But as he warns you don’t need a long-range ICBM to hit us, they could easily launch an EMP nuke attack with a high altitude weather balloon!
If terrorists and rogue nations cannot get make a success of their nuke programs they can easily attack our power grid networks over coordinated ground attacks with small arms and explosives! WSJ’s Rebecca Smith details the attack on the San Jose sub-station pointing out underground fiber optic cables were cut by only someone with prior knowledge would know about, along with the small arms fire. This was a clear test run to prove it can be done via low tech!
Regardless of how it will happen be it nuclear weapons, EMP natural(solar flare) or man-made, low tech terror attack via small arms & explosives if our grid is taken down we are looking to at least 6 mos to one year to get the grid back up. Why? The transformers and other key components are no longer manufactured in the US! Said replacements will have to come from overseas suppliers from countries like Germany and S Korea. During that time frame there would still be the issue of getting them installed… remember if the grid is taken down nationwide via EMP the US will be back in the middle ages which means cars, trucks, planes and trains won’t work either!!
This isn’t tinfoil hat conspiracy or paranoia. The power grid can be taken down by man or nature and right now Congress seems to be more concerned holding onto their seats of power rather than take the necessary steps to protect the nation.
