Jesse Jackson: Trayvon “Perfect Storm” for Gun Control

Jackson made a surprise appearance at the National Writing Project’s Urban Sites Network 2012 Conference in Tulsa, OK. During the speech he had the audience repeating phrases, which I found quite odd and a manner of indoctrination I’m a bit rough on my Jacksonese but I was able to translate most of this…..

“If the child matters to you, you’ll figure out a way to keep ‘em. If it don’t you’ll figure out to dismiss them. And that’s that’s what put puts you in a burden of trying to fight the structure of the culture. The culture is declining, we’ve lost 31 blacks in police killings, ahh security(?)(unintelligible) killings this year, 17 since Trayvon. Trayvon just happened to be a perfect storm, the right culmination of things and social media equal this von… this Trayvonizing of our time.

The Trayvon is, the tragic fact of Trayvon’s situation its more common than unique. If it was unique you’d say that kid had they problem, but there’s a Trayvon in every town, right? That’s what make Trayvon such an ideal force for sensitivity because if you look at that, everything about that case is sorta lived in everyday and I want people to make sure that they uhh notice about that hoodie. Cause it’s not about that hoodie, it’s about racial profiling. The hoodie is almost a diversion, people don’t want no more(?)(unintelligible) selling hoodies, the other don’t want us selling these rifles. And until we come to grips with just how violent we’ve become, my god, I mean concealed weapons? And we.. say arresting Zimmerman, arresting Zimmerman is a first down, not a touchdown. Until repeal the Stand Your Ground laws, until we revise the ban on assault weapons, until we stop racial profiling, the problem will get worse. But it doesn’t have to be because we have the power to make a difference. Thank you very much”
