To call Putin looney or crazy is dismissive. This guy is smart and methodical he knows exactly what he is doing and is playing not only obama but the entire world for fools. He has in fact demonstrated to the world how weak the US is now under obama who is more concerned with going on Ellen and selling obamacare than nations who were promised protection in exchange for giving up their nuclear arsenal!
What Putin is doing is brilliant as he just invaded/ seized a country absorbing it back into the soon to be reborn Soviet Empire while the world just stood by and watched. 
half of Ukraine because he needs it to maintain a hold on the gas lines! There are unconfirmed reports that Ukrainian soldiers are defecting to join Russian forces, this is a simple act of survival. These soldiers do not want to be on the wrong side of a battle when the dust settles. They also know there is a high probability Putin will move west to take all of Ukraine because he cannot restore the Empire taking Poland, Slavics etc unless he controls all of the Ukraine!
Let me be clear whatever Putin does he will go unchallenged, dismissing sanctions and harsh language from the US and NATO members. You’re witnessing history folks a new Cold War has begun!
