If you haven’t seen Homeland you’re missing a great show. Oct 4th was the season 5 premier where they addressed the rise of the caliphate and lack of US strategy to confront ISIS/ISIL in the middle east. Granted this is a piece of fiction but it is torn from our headlines and it appears characters in this show take the dangers posed against the US more seriously than our actual leaders!
Everything Quinn (Rupert Friend) explains in this scene about the US strategy (non-existent) vs ISIS/ISIL is 100% true. The building of an army, beheadings, crucifixions, slavery etc is all by design jihadists learn from their interpretation of that book, “the only book they ever read, they read it all the time, they never stop. They’re there for one reason and one reason only: to die for the caliphate and usher in a world without infidels…” in preparation for “end times”. ISIS’ end goal is an apocalypse to hasten the return of the Mahdi (islamic messiah), which is the same end goal as the Iranian Twelvers (Twelfth imam). Limited sorties and a handful special forces on the ground is not a strategy to destroy a global threat.
US leadership sits idly by refusing to do what is necessary to destroy this rising death cult. Quinn advises to “hit reset” and “pound Raqqa into a parking lot”. That of course will never happen as US leadership has no desire to do what is necessary. Instead the admin has allowed a death cult to establish new haven for terrorism while more or less ceding US status as a superpower to Russia!
